Most Ontario guides pick a side. Sasha teaches centerpin float fishing and fly fishing, so the method is chosen to suit the river, the season and the fish — not the guide's single specialty.
The point of a guided day is not that somebody hands you a fish. It is that you can go back next week and catch one yourself — casting, float control, depth, shot patterns, reading water, and knowing when to move.
Tight-line nymphing is Sasha's specialty. It is the most effective way to fish a lot of Southern Ontario water, and it is much easier to learn on the river with someone who fishes it than from a video.
Spring steelhead, summer trout and summer carp on the fly. You can book with the same guide in March, in June and in August and get three completely different days on the water.
A centerpin reel has a freely rotating spool, so the current pulls line off the reel as your float travels downstream. The result is a long, natural, drag-free drift through holding water — which is exactly what a steelhead wants to see.
What you will work on:
Dry flies when fish are looking up, indicator nymphing when they are not, Euro-style tight-lining through pocket water, streamers for brown trout, and sight fishing for Grand River carp. Four rivers, four very different jobs for a fly rod.

The lower river is big water that takes migratory Lake Ontario fish — steelhead, float and fly. The upper river is small, clear and technical, with resident brown, brook and rainbow trout. Same name, two completely different days.
River guide
A large tailwater with cold-water trout habitat below the reservoir, and the best carp fly fishing in the region. Brown trout on dries, nymphs, Euro rigs and streamers — then carp on the flats once summer arrives.

A smaller Lake Ontario tributary with good access in the lower system and a genuine run of migratory fish. Tighter water than the Credit, which makes float control and a careful approach matter more.

Steelhead trips run during legal open seasons, with locations selected according to fish movements, river conditions and current Ontario fishing regulations. Open seasons and special rules vary by river and by section — Sasha picks the water for the day.
Steelhead, trout and carp are all the same base rate, so you can pick the fishery on the day without the price changing.

No. Rods, reels, centerpin tackle, flies, terminal tackle, leaders and tippet are all included. If you own gear you would rather fish, bring it — and if you want to learn on your own rod, that is often the most useful way to spend the day.
Yes. Every angler needs a valid Ontario fishing licence, and it is the one thing we cannot supply for you. You can buy one online from the Ontario government before your trip.
Yes — complete beginners are welcome, and so are experienced steelheaders who want to fix something specific. A first-timer spends the day on casting, float control and reading water. An experienced angler might spend it on shot patterns, depth and detecting soft takes.
If rain, flow or temperature make the river unsafe or unfishable, your trip is rescheduled at no charge. River conditions are not your financial risk — that is the whole point of fishing with somebody who watches these rivers.
No. Every trip is walk and wade. You will be on your feet in the river, which is why waders and decent footing matter more than casting distance.
